Well not quite yet, and depending how tonight and Sunday afternoon goes, then not at all. But for all intensive purposes let’s just say things heat up come Sunday evening, the title race is fully on!
Starting with tonight, Club Brugge fired their way back into the race last Monday against Zulte Waregem and take on Anderlecht’s conquerors Charleroi. This was always going to be a tough match anyway, but Les Zèbres proved they can beat quality opposition. Brugge have been pretty slow in starting matches as well so that could be their weakness. With the signing Erhan Masovic being in the news a lot recently rather than the build up to tonight, hopefully he’ll see what the Pro League has to offer.
Sunday sees 2 matches that influence a lot at the very top of this group. Oostende welcome Gent, who’ll want to get their own title chase back on track after a 0-0 draw against their biggest rivals for the championship last week. De Kustboys claimed their first win in a while last time out, so with both teams fighting for at least second playing away, Anderlecht will be hoping their home form will come good.
And personally that’s easier done than said, and I meant to word it like that! Zulte Waregem have !are a steady slide down and out of the European places. Of course they’ve claimed their spot due to their cup win but they look liked they’ve given up. That said, I wrote a piece just before the play offs began saying Zulte Waregem are the worst team head to head against their top 6 rivals, and they’ve gone with form. Anderlecht are the best if we go by that, and again they’re proving that. So with best vs worst, Club Brugge and Gent will need nothing less than a win as I feel Zulte Waregem won’t put up much of a fight!
Some quality matches as always in Belgium, and with that, teams are still fighting for their own individual targets and with that, hoping to go beyond their expectations!
